Public star shows usually take place on the first & third Friday of each month, with some exceptions. Information about the latest star shows can be found by following this link. We also hold a variety of public observing sessions and other atronomy based events throughout the year.
The Planetarium & Observatory are a non-profit making service area within the Care for Your Area section of Development and Neighbourhood Services, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council. We are a subsidised service area and try to offer our services at a minimum cost to all. Current charges for public shows are:
A child is anyone under 18 years of age and retired is classed as over 60 years old. Public Observing sessions & Telescope Club are free as are most of our other events, some small charges are made for bookable craft events in the Countryside Events programme of Stockton Borough Council.
You can usually turn up on the door for a public star show, but we cannot guarantee you a seat. Some seats in the auditorium also have better views of our star dome than others, consequently we operate a booking system whereby if you call up to reserve a seats we will place your name on the better seats on a first-come first-served basis. We do not make any charge for booking and everyone pays entry on the door on the night of the show (at present we cannot take payments in advance) all we ask if you book seats is that you let us know well in advance if you cannot make the show so that we can offer the seats to other people. To book you need to call the planetarium on +44 (0) 1740 630544 leaving your name, a contact telephone number and the number and types of seats required (including any seating requirements). As we are based on a country park the telephone lines can be less than clear so please speak clearly and distinctly if you get our answering machine. Your booking of seats will be confirmed by either speaking to a member of staff when you call or a member of staff returning your call should you have had to leave a message, please do not assume that a booking is confirmed until you have spoken to a member of staff at the Planetarium. We cannot usually take bookings for publci shows for parties of more than 10 as for such groups you can book your own community group show.
