Celestial Kitchen NGC5139 Omega Centauri - Globular Cluster

The Celestial kitchen is an outside activity, it lasts about 1 hour and 15 minutes and is based around a sculpture by North-East sculptor, Colin Wilbourn, who specialises in sculptures to be explored visually. The sculpture takes the form of a giant kitchen on a concrete table, where each element of the sculpture has an astronomical significance or function. The sculpture activity is most suited to Key Stage 3 & 4 classes, but is fun to explore for younger children or indeed any casual visitor. The activity can be led by a member of staff or self-led by a teacher/group leader - a charge is made for the led version of the activity (for prices please see education visits).

If you visit at night with your own torch you can hold you own planetarium show using the collander for the northern hemisphere constellations and the straining laddle for those in the southern hemisphere. You can also download a pamphlet on the Celestial Kitchen by clicking here and take a virtual tour.
