Wynyard Planetarium and Observatory

About Us

Wynyard Planetarium and Observatory is an educational and entertainment resource for schools, colleges and the general public.

It is operated by Teesside Astronomical Science Centre (TASC), a non-profit charitable organisation set up to run the facility and to promote astronomical and space education, along with the assistance of both the Cleveland and Darlington Astronomical Society (CaDAS) and Durham Astronomical Society (DAS).

Planetarium

Our planetarium seats up to thirty six people and we can project both the night sky and full-dome 360' images and video.

A comfortable way to explore the wonders of the night sky, space, and our solar system. For further information please see Events page.

Observatory

The observatory was opened in 1994 by the 14th Astronomer Royal, Professor Sir Arnold Wolfendale, FRS.

It currently houses our computer controlled 14' Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope.

It is open to the public during and after our public shows, and every Tuesday night between 19:30 - 21:00 (weather permitting). For further information please see our COVID-19 statement.
